Take Action

Demand Patient Safety

Right now, the Oklahoma legislature is considering legislation that would enable nurses to operate without the supervision of a doctor. Under Senate Bill 801, nurse anesthetists would be permitted to open their own practices and administer life-threatening medicines without being supervised by a medical doctor.

This is not the time to weaken the patient protections. When Oklahomans are facing surgery, they need to know a doctor is supervising the entire medical team. Contact your legislators today. Tell them to stand-up for patients and their families. Tell them you oppose Senate Bill 801.

Keep Doctors Leading Health Care Teams

Doctors must always lead the health care team. Right now, the Oklahoma legislature is considering legislation that would enable nurses to practice medicine without the supervision of a doctor. Under Senate Bill 839 and Senate Bill 917, nurse practitioners would be able to request a “waiver of supervision” and practice medicine just like a doctor, even though they only maintain a fraction of the training and education necessary to do so. Oklahomans deserve the best care when considering diagnosis and treatment and this is not the time to weaken patient protections. Contact your legislators today. Tell them to stand-up for patients and their families. Tell them you oppose Senate Bill 839 and Senate Bill 917.
